Tercihlerimizi Prefer yapısını kullanarak ifade ederiz. Bize sunulan seçenek eğer isimse , iki ismin arasına ''to'' koyarak cümlemizi kurarız Prefer yapısı geniş zaman kurallarına göre kullanılır.

Eğer bir şeyi değil de bir şey yapmayı tercih ediyorsak yani fill kullanacaksak , fiil “ing” alır. İki fiil varsa yine fiil ing alır ve bu filler arasında yine ''to'' kurarız.

“Would rather” ve “prefer” ifadeleri aynı anlamı taşır. “Would rather” ifadesinden sonra fiil “ing” almaksızın, yalın halde kullanılır. İki şey arasında tercih yapılıyorsa “would rather” ifadesinden sonra ”than” kullanılır.
