2 Past of “be” (was-were)
A)Önceden olup bitmiş ve etkisi şu anda da devam etmeyen durumlardan bahsederken geniş zamandaki am / is / are yardımcı fiileri yerine ; geçmiş zamandaki was/ were yardımcı fiilleri kullanılır . “Was” yapısı I / he / she / it özneleri ; “Were” yapısı ise you / we / they özneleri ile beraber kullanılır. Tom was a student last year (Tom geçen yıl öğrenci idi.) My father was a footballer twenty years ago. (Babam yirmi yıl önce futbolcuydu.)

3 B) “Was , were” geçmişteki bir olgu veya durumdan bahsederken isim cümlelerinde kullanılır. Dolayısıyla bu yardımcı fiiller bir eylem veya hareket belirtmedikleri için bir fiille beraber kullanılamazlar. I was at scholl yeterday. (Dün okuldaydım) Bu cümlede de görüldüğü gibi herhangi bir eylemden bahsedilmemiştir. Dolayısı ile cümlede fiil kullanamayız.

“Simple Past Tense” Türkçedeki “Geçmiş zaman”dır. A)Regular Verbs(Düzenli Fiiller) İngilizcede geçmiş zaman yapmak için olumlu cümlede fiilin sonuna –ed takısı ekleriz. Eğer fiil –e harfiyle bitiyorsa sadece fiile –d eklenir. 19 Usage of the Simple Past Tense
Simple past tense bir eylemin geçmişte bilinen bir zamanda yapılıp tamamlandığını gösterir. Simple Past Tense en çok bu amaç için kullanılır. I saw a movie yesterday. I didn’t go to work last Friday Last year I traveled to China

21 C)Simple past tense geçmişte düzenli olarak yapılan, fakat artık geçerli olmayan eylem ve davranışlardan bahsederken kullanılır. Bu kullanım `used to` ile aynı anlamdadır. Bu anlatımlarda vümleler de genellikle often usually never, … when ı was child or … when ı was younger gibi zarf yapıları yer alır -My father took me to the Luna park every Sunday (Her Pazar babam beni luna parka götürürdü.) -He played the piano when he was a child.
