Az önce 7 kişi ile birlikte yolculuk etmekte olduğunuz uçağınız Laura gölünün doğu kıyısına düştü. Uçağın pilotu öldü ancak siz ve diğer 6 yolcu hiçbir yara almadan kurtuldunuz. Uçak bir göle düştüğünden hepiniz sırılsıklam ıslanmış vaziyettesiniz. Uçağınız pilotun cesedi ile sulara gömüldü. Uçak kazası o kadar ani oldu ki pilotunuz düşmekte olduğunuzu kimseye haber verme imkanını bulamadı. Ancak çevreye baktığınızda varış noktanızın olan Labrador’un aşağı yukarı 48 km güneyinde ve kalkış noktanız olan Schefferville in 32 km(uçuş mesafesi) doğusunda olduğunuz anlaşılıyor. Düşmüş olduğunuz yere en yakın yerleşim birimi olan Schefferville, St Lawrence ‘in 500 km (uçuş mesafesi) kuzeyinde, James Bay/Hudson göller bölgesinin 726 km (uçuş mesafesi) doğusunda, Artic bölgesinin 1290 km (uçuş mesafesi) güneyinde ve Atlantik kıyısının 484 km (uçuş mesafesi) doğusunda yer alan 5000 nüfuslu bir madencilik kasabası. Schefferville kasabası yakınındaki tüm yollar kasabanın ancak 3-4 km yakınından geçiyor.Bu nedenle Schefferville’e ancak hava veya demir yolu ile ulaşmak mümkün. Schefferville’den ayrılırken hava alanı yetkililerine Labrador’dan en geç Ekimin 10 unda döneceğinizi bildirdiniz. Şu anda bulunduğunuz bölgenin yakın çevresi ağaçlarla kaplı. Etrafınızda çıplak yosun kaplı kayalarla çevrili birkaç tepe var. Tepelerinin arasındaki vadilerde oldukça sık ve dikenli bir bitki örtüsü var. Bulunduğunuz bölgenin yaklaşık %25 i kuzey doğudan güneybatıya akan ve bölgedeki göllerle birleşen sayısız uzun-geniş ırmak ve derelerle çevrili. Bulunduğunuz bölgede ekim ayında hava sıcaklığı yaklaşık olarak (-4) o C - (+3) o C derece arasında oluyor. Ancak nadidende olsa hava sıcaklığın (+10) o C dereceyi bulduğu veya (-18) o C dereceye düştüğü oluyor. Günün yaklaşık ¾ ünde gökyüzü kara bulutlarla kaplı. Ancak 10 günde bir havanın açık ve berrak olduğunu görmeniz mümkün. Yerde yaklaşık olarak 30cm ile 45 cm arasında değişen kar var. Ancak rüzgarın etkisi ile bazı bölgelerde karın daha da kalınlaştığını veya inceldiği görmek mümkün. Bölgede genelde kuzey ve kuzey doğudan ortalama 21-24 km hızla esen bir rüzgar var. Hepiniz gitmekte olduğunuz bölgenin özelliklerini dikkate aldığınızdan yünlü çamaşırlar, kalın çoraplar, yünlü gömlek pantolon, eldiven ve bereler, kalın gocuklar ve kalın deri botlar giymiş durumdasınız. Hepinizin toplam serveti 42 milyon nakitten ; bir cep çakısından 1 adet kurşun kalemden ve bir hava haritasından oluşuyor. Harita ıslandığında pek okunabilir değil ama gene de bu haritaya bakarak şu sonuçlara vardınız : (1) Schefferville e yürüme mesafesi olarak yaklaşık 80 km uzaktasınız (2) Bu yürüyüş mesafesi boyunca geçmek zorunda olduğunuz birkaç dere -ırmak var (3) Bulunduğunuz yerin yaklaşık 500 metre doğusuna tepe Schefferville hava alanının görüş mesafesi üzerinde. Uçak sulara gömülmeden önce 15 adet malzeme kurtarmayı başardınız. Göreviniz bu 15 adet malzemeyi bölgeden sağ olarak kurtulmanız açısından ne derece önemli olduklarına ilişkin bir önem sırasına koymaktır. “1” en önemli olan malzemeyi “15” en az önemli malzemeyi gösterecektir. 2
