Newspaper headlines Be brief, precise, and impactful (short words are quickly read and fit into a small space on a newspaper) Use punchy function words (choose verb over noun) Use concrete, and colorful vocabulary that appeal to senses Choose plain over fancy words Use simple present tense for past, and infinitive for future Leave out most structure words and articles

The Language of Captions A caption, also called a cutline, is a brief description of a picture. Usually phrases are used to list the name(s) of people or objects in a picture Complete sentences may be used to describe a scene.
