SELDA BAĞCAN… Turkish Folk Music artist and composer. She was born in 1948 in Muğla. Her mother was a teacher, her father was a veterinarian. Selda Bağcan, whose student years were in Ankara, graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Science, Department of Physics Engineering in 1971. When the first two 45's records he released in the same year were sold for around a million, she decided to choose music as a profession.

She was the first time in 1973 that he performed her western Europe tour. She gave numerous concerts abroad including Spain, England, America, Germany, Bulgaria, Poland and Israel.. Everyone listened admiringly to Selda Bağcan Spanish music researcher Vicente Fabuel's comment on Selda Bağcan is as follows: “Turkish vocalist Selda is one of the few legendary female voices originating from eastern culture. Selda Bağcan, who adopted the protest music style, was known for her interpretation of folk songs with a contemporary style. Her passport was confiscated after the 1980 coup. The artist, who was not given a passport between 1980 and 1987, had to interrupt her concerts abroad. When he received an invitation from The Womad Foundation festival supported by Peter Gabriel in 1986, he could not go because he did not have a passport. But the festival committee included a song by Selda Bağcan on the festival plate. He received concerts from many countries with his folk song on the festival plaque played on all radios of the world. The biggest feature of these concerts was that their tickets were free and open to the public.

Between 1981 and 1984, she was imprisoned three times in Metris Military Criminal and Prison for her songs.

She said that when she first entered the prison, all those in the wards stood up and started to sing the anthems accepted as “Forbidden”, and an officer who came in made a speech. Selda Bağcan said in her subsequent interviews: "I went to prison without guilt, I was tried for years, yet I am not avenger." "When they handcuffed my hand, I realized that my hands were very beautiful. … Oh beautiful hearted woman!..

After leaving prison, she was banned on channel TRT(only one channel in turkey). The songs she believed in were never seen on TV. Despite that, she was very popular.. Everybody loved it so much.

In 2010, Ince Def Snow Decision was used in Mos De's Best Rap Album of 2010, which is Grammy nominee for the Super Defic album! The world press continued to talk about our great artist. She later stated that her song was used without permission, but she was happy that she was a Grammy candidate and the song started with the words of Martin Luther King.

In 2016, one of the biggest music festivals in the world, Primavera Sound, Israeli music group Boom Pam gave a concert together. In addition to Selda Bağcan, world-famous names and groups such as Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey, Tame Impala, Sigur Rós, Animal Collective, Pusha T, Brian Wilson, John Carpenter, Vince Staples, Julia Holter took the stage.

Now, Selda Bağcan lives in Istanbul and is the manager of the 'Major Music Production' company she owns.
