What is discussion ? Ideas and thoughts to settle the issue of openness, debate called into the conversations revealed of two or more people. A Method of teaching where teacher and students actively partake in the learning process.

Purposes of discussion To rehearse and review information To reflect on and examine ideas, opinions, issues, and events To resolve problems To improve oral communication skills.

Characteristics of discussion Teacher-student and student-student interaction. Whole or small group Homogeneous or heteregeneous participants Teacher as facilitator-moderator, participant or observer- recorder Physical arrangement : circle, fishbowl

Interaction Pattern of discussion Providing teacher-student interaction in the discussion process, students say their thoughts on the issues and provided opportunities to comment. Students on the subject of analysis, synthesis and evaluation to develop power.

Group Size and Composition to Discussion The whole class can engage in a common discussion, or it can be divided into groups. All other factors being equal, small groups are preferable since they allow more potential for participation. Arguments can be made for either position.

Group Arrangement to Discussion The grouping can be either homogeneous, with lower-level students working on less challenging material and higher-level students working on more challenging material, or they can be heterogeneous, with higher level students honing their understanding by helping lower- level students improve. Grouping arrangements also give students the opportunity to develop their social and emotional skills because they have to learn how to get along with peers that they may not be friends with and remain on task with peers with whom they are friends.

Role of the Teacher to Discussion Teacher's duties and responsibilities are difficult discussion ; Noise may occur in the classroom Dispersible issues Some students can not want to participate Classroom management issues may arise. However, if the student is necessary for effective learning, it is necessary to guide the teacher to the student.
