Goethe born in Frankfurt. 1751-1759 Ö ğ renimini, sınıf arkada ş ı ve yakın dostu, Aydınlanma hareketinin öncülerinden Martín Zapater’le beraber Zaragoza Pías Okulu’nda tamamladı. The exhibition unites his various oil paintings and engraving series and shed light on Goya’s extraordinary imagination with his realistic and at times frigthening style that makes him one of the best narrators of darkness.

11 KAPR İ ÇYOLAR,1799 Goya gravür çalı ş malarına 1788’de bu alanda söz sahibi olan İ talyanlar’ın özellikle de Velázquez’in eserlerini kopyalayarak ba ş ladı.Acemili ğ inin yansıdı ğ ı bu çalı ş maların ardından,saray ba ş ressamlı ğ ına atandı ğ ı 1799’da yayımladı ğ ı ilk dizisi, 80 baskıdan olu ş an Kapriçyolar’dır. 1729 tarihli İ spanyol Akademi Sözlü ğ ü’ne göre kapris “dü ş ünceden (niyetten)yola çıkarak olu ş turulmu ş, genellikle ola ğ an ve yaygın kurallara uymayan yargı…”olarak tanımlanıyordu. Goya, 18.yüzyıl sonu İ spanyol toplumunun, özellikle soyluların ve din adamlarının yergisi niteli ğ indeki bu serisiyle döneminin toplumsal a ş ırılıklarını ustalıkla ele ş tirebilen bir aydın oldu ğ unu kanıtlıyordu. Kapriçyolar’da İ talyan karikatürlerinden yararlanır;kahramanların yüz hatları abartılıdır,bazı örneklerde insanın kusurlarını ve zavallılı ğ ını vurgulamak için çehrelere hayvani özellikler ekler.Dizinin 300 nüshası Madrid’de sanatçının evine yakın bir parfüm ve içki dükkânında 14 gün boyunca satı ş a sunulmu ş tur. Engizisyon’un kendisine kar ş ı önlem almasından korkan Goya, sadece 27 nüshası satılan diziyi satı ş tan çekerek, o ğ luna ömür boyu maa ş ba ğ lanması kar ş ılı ğ ında Kral IV. Carlos’a devretmi ş tir. CAPRICHOS,1799 Goya’s first print series was a collectionof copies of paintings by Velázquez in 1778. They were clumsy and strongly influenced by,among others, the Italian models popular at the time. In 1799, after being appointed court painter,he published the series called the Caprichos which was to be composed of 80 prints. In the Spanish Dictionary of 1729, capricho (caprice) was defined as a “judgement formed by an idea [of intent] and in general outside ordinary common rules…” The series is a satire of 18 th century Spanish society, especially the nobility and clergy through which he proves to be an enlightened intellectual, able to masterfully criticize the excesses of the society of his time. Inspired by Italian caricature, the features of the characters in the Caprichos are exaggerated and in some cases he adds animal features to the faces to highlight human vices and clumsiness. The series, of which 300 were printed,was on sale for 14 days in a perfume and liqueur shop in Madrid, close to the artist’s residence. The Inquisition was able to take action against Goya, and the artisat was terrified enough to withdraw the series after having sold only 27 copies. He decided to offer the original plates to King Charles IV,in exchange for a life pension for his son.
